What is SAI (Student Aid Index)?
The Student Aid Index (SAI) replaced the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) starting with the 2024-2025 FAFSA. It is a calculated number used to determine:

A student's ability to pay for college.

Eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
Where can you find your SAI?
The 2025-2026 FAFSA becomes available in December 2024. Once completed:

Your SAI will be displayed on the confirmation page under "Estimated Student Aid Index.

It can also be viewed in the "Eligibility Overview" section of your FAFSA submission summary. If you have not completed your FAFSA, an estimated SAI will be calculated based on the provided information.
The difference between SAI and EFC?
EFC: Based solely on income and assets.

SAI: Factors in additional elements, such as geographic location and parental education level. Both metrics assist colleges in determining eligibility for financial aid, including grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study programs.
